Collaboration for Manufacturing and Research
TriPoints collaborates with the research institute PRIA and manufactures the Hedgehog robotics controller.
Task
The Practical Robotics Institute Austria (PRIA), whose mission is to inspire children and young people to engage with technology and the natural sciences through robotics, was looking for a manufacturing partner for the circuit boards of its self-developed Hedgehog robotics controller. Particularly important to the researchers was a local electronics manufacturing partner for small production volumes, with a personal point of contact.
Solution
A total of 96 Hedgehog robotics controllers were manufactured here at TriPoints. To make this possible, it was necessary to adapt the production process with a greater degree of flexibility. One of the challenges, for example, was that some of the PCB spacing did not meet the standard requirements of series production. However, through direct personal communication, a solution satisfactory to all parties was found.
Result
Alongside the successful production project, PRIA is also working together with TriPoints on two of its research projects — KnowDrift and COmBINE. Using the “TriPoints Electronics Manufacturing” use case, PRIA is exploring, for example, how manual processes such as THT assembly (through-hole technology) of larger components on a printed circuit board can be efficiently automated in the future using robotics.
A Partnership for Science
TriPoints is also involved in the research collaboration COmBINE, which is developing a cloud manufacturing system based on artificial intelligence. This will make it possible to distribute industrial production orders across the manufacturing capacities of different companies.
